The original project on the PEG (then named the Western Challenge) was to visit the vessel in Australia to establish if she was suitable to be converted from a Coal Transport Barge to a Titanium Sands transhipment vessel between the Moma jetty and an awaiting Bulk carrier.
The vessel was procured by Kenmare and the conversion involved
- Installation of two steerable thrusters with power packs.
- Loading Hopper with cantilevered conveyers for product spreading.
- Additional Accommodation Units
- Davits and Yokohama Fenders
Later the PEG was upgraded with a new Starboard Windlass
In 2024/2025 a further refit was undertalen whereby
- Port Windlass replaced to match the Stbd Windlass.
- Installation of 4 new mooring winches with associated swivel fairleaders
- Installation for further accommodation / office containers as well as a gym container
- Installation of two new control bridges
- Creating a new below deck machinery space to accommodate the sewage treatment plant, the water maker and water tank.
