In parallel to the building of the SMIT LIPUMA, Triton were contracted to design the double skin structure for the Pentow Energy (previously also designed by Triton), so as to meet current MARPOL legislation.
The double skinning is currently nearing completion by DORMAC in Durban..
Both the Smit (nee Pentow) Energy and Smit Lipuma are in Class with Bureau Veritas, hence all design and drawings are classed approved.
Incidentally the entire bottom structure was prefabricated and laid out on blocks on an inclined slipway for the vessel to be “docked” on top of it. The error in alignment was allegedly down to the single figure millimetre.
